Out and About: Seahaven is located on a private unmade road on the edge of Selsey's East Beach. The views from the pebble beach are far reaching across a wide open bay fringed with a natural wild edge of grasses and flowers. The village of Selsey is just a short walk along the seafront and has all you can need with restaurants, cafes, butcher's and a small selection of independent shops. It is well known for its fresh fish and local crab and used to be a well known haunt for smugglers. Just across the fields behind the property is Pagham RSPB Nature Reserve which is within easy walking distance. The beautiful town of Chichester is only 8 miles away, with its museum, cathedral, art gallery, cafes and shops to explore. Or have a day at the races with the famous Goodwwod racecourse just 35 minute drive.
We rented this house for a family gathering. There were 13 of us of a range of ages. The house was ideally suited for this given the time of year and the fact we did not really need to leave it. Apart that is from some excellent seafront walks. It was as clean as a whistle and very spacious and well equipped.
We were a large group of numerous families with too many children to count ranging in age from one to ten. We all had a fantastic time. The house is very well laid out and equipped. We could have packed lighter. Plenty of space for people to come together around the large kitchen table and comfortable garden seating. Also some quiet time in the myriad room or the expansive gardens. The beach was so quiet too. We practically had it to ourselves. As a Mi.dlander I enjoyed swimming in the sea and my husband and I swam with our four year old son in the sea altogether for the first time. Magical. It was a huge bonus to be able to walk to the beach and not have to load up the car with everything you may need and then worry about parking made our beach trip so easy. We wandered to the children's park but have to confess that is all the exploring we did. The huge garden and calm sea were attractions enough to keep all the adults and children happy. In short we would happily recommend for a gathering of many families. We all expected it to be fraught but the thoughtfully organised house and garden and the location to the beach location meant that it was actually relaxing. No small feat with so many toddlers around.
This was our first visit to this part of the UK and what a delight! As you will see the house is tastefully and fully equipped for a relaxing holiday. \turn to the right at the beach, you can walk along and eventually reach Selsey Village. This has a pleasant High Street and the RNLI Lifeboat Station. The Pagham PSPB Nature Reserve is worth a visit and it is free. Part of the walk will give you information on the railway that used to run from Chichester to Selsey. We caught small bass and bream from the each. Fushing tackle and bait from the Southern Angling at Stockbridge. Relax and enjoy - We did!
During our time we have spent this year in Seahaven. We have been amazed by the wildlife in the garden and in the field behind the house. In the garden there are squirrels, rabbits, foxes, and the birds we have seen include a young green woodpecker, jays, pigeons, collared dove blackbirds, greater spotted woodpeckers (red, black and white) and various other small birds like sparrows its and wrens and red legged partridges too. In the field we also saw a vixen and her fox cubs, three fallow deer and in the spring curlews and shell ducks. Just sit quietly and watch... There are many distinctive flowers in the beach. The flowers growing in the field behind is a haven all sorts of insects and butterflies. Many thanks
Wow! What a wonderful house for a break with friends. We have spent three nights at Seahaven and have loved exploring the local area. Having the beach so close meant that the kids spent hours of collecting rocks and shells and then we wandered down to the lifeboat station and park. West wittering beach was beautiful, even o a cloudy day, and is perfect for building sand castles and flying kites. Thank you for the recommendation of the Crown & Anchor for dinner, we had a lovely meal. The house was perfect for a lovely, relaxing weekend - we will be back.!
