To give our cleaners enough time to complete the additional cleaning and sanitising that is currently needed to keep our guests safe, check-in and check-out times at the majority of our properties have been temporarily revised. The revised times for this property are reflected above.
The Old Piggery has been tastefully converted from a Victorian outbuilding into a stylish studio for two. It sits proudly in the grounds of the owners' grade II listed cottage set close to acres of woodland and countryside accessible on foot. The owners' garden which surrounds the property has an authentically old-fashioned country feel which is in marked contrast to the modern lines of the converted studio. Accessed by the original brick path, the open plan interior is welcoming and very comfortably furnished with a fitted kitchen, king size bed and comfy armchairs with superb garden views. There are Soay sheep grazing in the owners paddock and the Orlestone Forest is on your doorstep. The Saxon Shore Way is also nearby and is a wonderful way to see the local area. There is a local 16th century Inn and gastro pub nearby in Warehorne and the Gusbourne winery offers tours and tastings of their locally brewed wines. The property is conveniently located between the Wealden town of Tenterden and Ashford, which has a 35 minute high speed rail link to London. The Romney Marsh area has 5 of the finest beaches in Kent, ranging from the vast expanse of shingle at Dungeness to the sandy shore at St Mary's Bay. The Old Piggery oozes charm and offers a wonderful boutique experience with many thoughtful touches provided by the owner to make your stay as special as possible. Will accept 1 and 2 night stays. Very pleased with the property, it was just perfect. The owner Caroline was really helpful and accommodating. Beautiful gardens and the weather was wonderful all weekend. We really enjoyed our stay.
We had a wonderful time at "The Old Piggery" which is surrounded by a marvelous garden. The cottage was beautifully furnished, very clean and everything you need to feel very comfortable is available. Caroline is a really great hostess. She has given us a lot of great tips for trips and she has always made us feel very very welcome. Thank you so much, Caroline for letting us have such a wonderful time at "The Old Piggery". Just wanted to thank you for a lovely stay in your gorgeous cottage and for running the competition - which of course we won! We will know where to book when we have more time next year.
A fantastic night's stay. The Old Piggery was beautifully decorated, spotless and very cosy. Set in idyllic grounds and comfortably detached from the (stunning) main house, we loved it! Caroline was a great host.
Amazing place. Caroline is a fantastic host and has created an absolutely stunning accommodation with no expense spared. Everything is of the highest quality and is in such a fantastic condition and so clean - we felt like we were the first people to have ever stayed!
The Piggery was absolutely gorgeous. To my delight it was completely in my taste with top quality beautiful furnishings. There was exquisite crisp white cotton lacey bed linen and a huge incredibly comfortable bed. The shower was large and warm and everything was immaculate. It is set in the grounds of Caroline’s amazing 16th century house with its beautiful gardens surrounded by countryside. She herself was a wonderful hostess and even provided us with a surprise warm croissant breakfast with fresh coffee and home-made jam this morning which was totally out of the blue. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this wonderful place and it’s equally wonderful owner. With regard to things to do, we ate at the Woolpack in which was lovely and went to a wine tasting at Chapeltown winery. We also went for a lovely walk along the military Canal.
Upon booking the Old Piggery, our wonderful experience began. Caroline was most attentive in responding to our booking, providing great instructions on finding the place and very kindly gave recommendations of places to eat nearby. The Old Piggery is quite idyllic and wonderfully tucked away, yet we always felt Caroline was nearby if we needed anything. Popping over with some wine glasses as we enjoyed the last of the evening sun was a lovely touch. It has all the mod cons you could want and the bed was amazingly comfy. It is located in a great location for visiting many sights in Kent and we would happily return in the future. Thank you Caroline for making us feel most welcome.
Our visit to The Old Piggery and Kent could happily be the first of many! Caroline was really helpful when offering directions for our arrival, along with local info and a warm welcome; we immediately felt assured we would enjoy our stay. We would certainly recommend staying at The Old Piggery; it is beautifully designed and very well appointed. Caroline is very friendly and approachable if you have any queries. The accommodation sits across the garden of the main house, but private enough and you don’t have to encroach on the hosts’ privacy either, in order to access it. The bed was seriously comfy and induced some lie-ins! We stayed for 4 nights, which was perfect for a combination of eating out, take away, or making basic meals back at base. During our stay we stumbled across a couple of nature reserves - one at Dungeness and one at Romney Marsh, both were ok but lacked lustre. However, we visited Rye which was fun and full of interest, and its nature reserve nearby was teaming with wildlife; both are worth a visit. We had a guided tour of the local vineyard at Gusbourne, which was really informative and we thoroughly enjoyed learning about (and tasting!) their wine. Local things we did and would recommend include: Rye, Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Camber Sands Gusbourne Vineyard, Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens, the town of Tenderten, The National Trust’s White Cliffs of Dover walk and a cream tea at the 1950’s Mrs Knott’s Tearoom in South Foreland Lighthouse! Hever Castle & Gardens (1hr away - we did this on our way home enroute to M25) Places to Eat: The Woolpack at Warehorne Beach 48 Fish & Chips at Dymchurch Thanks again Caroline, we had a fantastic few days staying with you!
