Tenterden is one of Kent's most popular towns has every reason to declare itself 'The Jewel of the Weald' with historic houses, a wide variety of shops - including many antique shops - contemporary and traditional restaurants, tea shops, pubs and a leisure centre. It is also home to The Kent & East Sussex Railway - the country's finest example of a rural light railway with 10.5 miles of track, all the way to Bodiam Castle. There are other castles and gardens to explore at Sissinghurst and Great Dixter. There are also a few local award-winning vineyards that offer tours and tastings; Chapel Down, Hush Heath and Gusbourne. Historic Rye is only 13 miles away. The beach at Camber Sands has 7 miles of golden sands with watersports and kite surfing available. Tenterden Golf Club welcomes visitors and the surrounding countryside is full of character Wealden villages with a great farmers market in Rolvenden, open every Thursday morning.
